Discussion Prompts

Back to Project TEAMS

These prompts are not a curriculum. They are doors. Pick one set, read it slowly, and let the conversation go where it needs to go.

One prompt is usually enough for a meeting. Two is plenty. Five is too many.

Identity

Underneath what we do, who do we believe we are? Begin where it's tender.

  • What name or label has shaped you the most — for better or for worse?
  • When do you feel most yourself? When do you feel most performed?
  • If God spoke one sentence about you this week, what would you want it to be?

Formation before performance

We were not made to be productive first. We were made to be becoming.

  • Where in your life are you producing without being formed?
  • What is one practice you've abandoned that you'd like to return to?
  • Who has formed you quietly — without you noticing at the time?

Brotherhood and sisterhood

We were not made to walk alone. Honest friendship is a slow gift.

  • Where do you feel known — and where do you feel hidden?
  • What is one thing you've never told the people closest to you?
  • How do you want your friendships to look in five years?

Digital wisdom

What we give our attention to is what we become. Speak gently here.

  • What does your phone know about you that your friends don't?
  • When was the last time you were bored — really bored — and what came of it?
  • What would a slower week look like, and what would it cost?

Purpose and calling

Calling is rarely a single voice. It usually comes as a long, quiet pull.

  • What have you been told you're good at that doesn't actually fit?
  • What kind of work makes time disappear for you?
  • If no one were watching, what would you build, write, or care for?

How to use these well

  1. Open in silence for one full minute. Resist the urge to fill it.
  2. Read the theme intro aloud, slowly. Then read one prompt.
  3. Let anyone who wants to speak go first. No order. No turn-taking.
  4. If someone passes, simply say 'that's welcome here' and move on.
  5. Close by naming one thing you heard in someone else's words.

Bring this into a circle

If you'd like to use these inside an ongoing group or circle, the Walk Together space helps you gather and stay connected between meetings.
