Carrying something you can't forgive yourself for

There are moments in life when we look back and wish we could erase what we've done. Words spoken in anger. Relationships broken. People we've hurt. Decisions we cannot undo. Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is ourselves.

The good news of the Gospel is that Christ's forgiveness is not limited by the size of our failure. If God is willing to forgive those who genuinely repent and place their trust in Him, who are we to continue condemning ourselves after He has already declared us forgiven?

That does not mean the consequences of our choices always disappear. Some wounds take years to heal, and some scars remain as reminders of where we've been. But guilt no longer has to define who we are.

King David committed adultery and arranged a man's death (2 Samuel 11). Peter denied knowing Jesus three times (Luke 22:54–62). Paul spent part of his life persecuting Christians (Acts 8:1–3). Yet each of them became living examples of God's redeeming grace.

You think you're too far gone

Many people quietly believe there is a line they crossed years ago — a point beyond which God no longer wants them.

The Bible never teaches that.

In fact, Jesus repeatedly sought out the very people society believed were beyond hope. Tax collectors. Prostitutes. Criminals. The outcasts. The religious failures (Matthew 9:10–13; Luke 19:1–10).

One of the greatest promises in Scripture is wonderfully simple:

Notice that Jesus placed no conditions on who may come.

Your past may explain where you've been. It does not determine where God can take you.

Angry at God

There are seasons when life simply doesn't make sense.

You prayed, but the answer never came. Someone you loved died. A marriage ended. A child suffered. You did everything you knew to do, and life still fell apart.

If that's where you are, know this: God is not surprised by your questions.

Many of the Psalms are filled with people crying out to God in confusion, disappointment, even frustration (Psalm 13; Psalm 88). Job questioned. David questioned. Jeremiah questioned. Even Jesus cried, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46).

God is not intimidated by honest hearts.

He would rather have your honest questions than your fake peace.

Afraid — of dying, of judgment, of what believing would cost you

Fear has a way of asking endless "what ifs."

What if Christianity is true? What if it isn't? What if following Christ changes everything?

The reality is that following Jesus does change everything — but not because He comes to take life away. He comes to give it (John 10:10).

Jesus never promised an easy road. He promised His presence on the road.

Perfect love doesn't remove every difficult circumstance. But it does remove the fear of facing them alone (1 John 4:18).

You feel nothing at all

Sometimes people expect faith to begin with overwhelming emotion.

Often it doesn't.

Some days we feel close to God. Other days we feel absolutely nothing.

Our feelings are real. They simply are not always reliable.

Faith is built upon who God is — not upon how we happen to feel today.

Continue seeking Him. Sometimes silence is not God's absence. Sometimes He is teaching us to trust Him beyond our emotions.

Ashamed that you have doubts

Doubt is not the opposite of faith. Unbelief is.

Doubt often means you're searching honestly.

One of Jesus' own disciples, Thomas, struggled to believe the resurrection until he saw Christ for himself (John 20:24–29). Jesus did not reject him. He met him.

A desperate father once cried out to Jesus, "I believe. Help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24). Jesus answered him with compassion, not condemnation.

God has never been afraid of sincere questions. Bring them to Him.

Raised in it, but never made it your own

Many people grow up attending church. They know the Bible stories. They know the songs. They know when to stand and when to sit.

But eventually each person must answer a question no one else can answer for them: Who is Jesus to me?

Faith cannot be inherited. It becomes personal when Christ becomes your Savior — not merely your family's.

You walked away years ago

Perhaps you once believed. Perhaps life became busy. Perhaps disappointment slowly replaced devotion. Or perhaps you simply drifted.

The Father never stopped looking down the road.

Hurt by a church

If a church wounded you, I am sorry. Not sorry that you misunderstood, and not sorry in a way that hurries you past it — sorry that a place meant to be a refuge became something you needed refuge from.

Churches are made up of imperfect people. Sometimes they fail. Sometimes they fail badly. That failure should never be minimized.

But the failures of God's people should never be confused with the character of God Himself.

Jesus never asked us to place our faith in a church. He asked us to place it in Him.

Hurt by a Christian

Sometimes the deepest wounds come from someone who claimed to represent Christ.

If that happened to you, I am truly sorry.

Followers of Jesus are called to reflect His love, His grace, His humility, and His truth. Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we fail miserably.

Please don't judge Jesus by those of us who imperfectly represent Him. Look instead at Christ Himself.

You're taking apart what you were taught

There is nothing wrong with examining what you believe. Truth does not fear honest investigation.

Read the Scriptures for yourself. Ask difficult questions. Search sincerely (Acts 17:11).

If Christianity is true, it will stand. If Jesus truly is who He claimed to be, He has nothing to fear from an honest seeker.

Few things expose the questions of eternity like sitting beside someone nearing the end of life.

It reminds us that life is precious. That our days are numbered. That relationships matter.

If this is where you are, my prayer is not only that you would find comfort, but that you would discover the God who promises to walk with us even through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4).

You are dying

The invitation of Christ remains open today. Not because you've earned it. But because He loves you.

The thief on the cross had nothing left to offer. No time to repair his past. No opportunity to live a better life. He simply turned to Jesus in faith. And Jesus welcomed him (Luke 23:39–43).

Everything has fallen apart

Sometimes life unravels all at once.

The marriage ends. The job disappears. The diagnosis comes. The phone rings. The future you imagined suddenly no longer exists.

When everything else is shaken, Christ remains unshaken (Hebrews 12:27–28).

He is still faithful. He is still present. He is still enough.

You're newly sober

If you're taking your first steps toward freedom, I want to encourage you.

Healing is often slow. Growth is rarely linear. Some days you'll feel strong. Some days you'll struggle.

Do not confuse the difficulty of the journey with the absence of God's grace.

His mercies truly are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).

Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Ask honestly. Ask humbly.

You think it's too late

As long as there is breath in your lungs, it is not too late.

The thief on the cross came to Christ in the final hours of his life. Jesus did not tell him he had missed his opportunity. He welcomed him.

Today still matters (2 Corinthians 6:2).

You've prayed and nothing happened

Perhaps this is the hardest one.

You've prayed. You've waited. You've hoped. And heaven seemed silent.

Silence can be deeply painful. But silence is not the same as absence.

God's timing is rarely our timing, and His purposes often extend beyond what we can presently understand.

I cannot promise you that every prayer will be answered the way you hope.

But I can promise this: the God who gave His own Son for you has not stopped loving you.

Sometimes His greatest answer is not changing our circumstances. Sometimes it is walking through them with us.

The bridge

No matter where you find yourself today, none of these things place you beyond the reach of God's grace.

The invitation of Jesus Christ has always been extended to ordinary people carrying extraordinary burdens.

If you're wondering whether there is hope for you, the answer is yes.

The question is not whether your past is too great. The question is whether Christ is great enough.

Christians believe He is — the Lord's plan of salvation.
